What Shopify's scanner does
Shopify released a free tool at commerce-readiness.shopify.io around late April 2026. Based on Shopify's tool and coverage from that period:
- You paste a public store or product URL; no login is required.
- It runs 31 scored checks in five categories, described as AI discoverability, product schema, transaction readiness, trust signals and operational maturity.
- Examples reported by reviewers include whether
/llms.txtresponds, whether the UCP discovery endpoint (/.well-known/ucp) exists, which fields are present in Product JSON-LD (offers, brand, SKU, ratings, shipping details, condition), whether privacy, shipping and terms pages exist and have real content, robots.txt, sitemaps and guest checkout. - It returns a score and a ranked list of gaps. It does not fix anything.
Reviewers have also noted its limits, which Shopify's own disclaimer echoes: it evaluates the URL you submit rather than your whole catalog, it reads the server response without running JavaScript, and a perfect score does not guarantee agents will surface your products.
For a free tool, that is a lot of useful signal, especially for spotting missing setup.
What AI Sales Assurance does
AI Sales Assurance is a read-only scanner focused on accuracy over time. It compares what AI shopping agents (ChatGPT, Gemini / AI Mode, Copilot, Perplexity) receive with your real product pages, and tells you what to fix:
- Price, currency and availability mismatches.
- JSON-LD missing, or present but disagreeing with the page.
- Offer and claim mismatches, wrong variants or titles, missing or broken product links.
- Incomplete product data, agent catalog and capability problems, missing refund or shipping policy, missing llms.txt.
- Cart-to-checkout path: item lost, variant or quantity changed, attribution parameters dropped. The test stops before payment.
It runs once for free, then daily (Essential, US$49/month) or every 6 hours (Pro, US$149/month), with alerts that include proof.

Why one-time and continuous are different jobs
A readiness scan is like a pre-flight inspection: it catches missing equipment. It cannot tell you that a pricing app changed tonight's sale price on the page but not in the structured data, or that a best-seller sold out at noon while the agent-facing data still says in stock. Those problems appear after a good score, and they are the ones a shopper notices. That is why we recommend running a readiness scan when you set up or change your store, and monitoring in between.
When to use which
- Use Shopify's scanner when you want a free, fast setup score; after a theme change or migration; or to check robots.txt, sitemaps and guest checkout, which AI Sales Assurance does not cover.
- Use AI Sales Assurance when you need to know whether agents show the right price, stock and variant across your catalog, and want to be told when that changes.
- Use both if you sell through AI channels at any volume. They overlap on a few checks (schema, policies, llms.txt) but answer different questions.
How to act on Shopify's scanner results
The ranked gap list is the useful part. Some typical findings and where they lead:
- llms.txt not found: on an Online Store theme, Shopify now serves one by default; if it is missing, check for a headless setup or a broken custom template. See our llms.txt guide.
- Product schema missing fields: your theme may not use Shopify's
structured_datafilter, or an app replaced it. Add fields such as brand, SKU and barcode where you have the data. - Thin policies: rewrite shipping, returns and privacy pages with concrete details (delays, countries, conditions).
- Guest checkout off: decide whether requiring an account is worth the friction for agent-referred shoppers.
Note that adding missing schema fields is exactly the kind of change that can introduce a mismatch, for example a hard-coded price. After fixing setup gaps, check that the values agree with your pages; our product schema guide shows how.
What neither tool does
- Neither tool edits your store. Both tell you what to change; you or your developer make the change.
- Neither guarantees that an AI assistant will recommend your products. Recommendation depends on the assistant, the shopper's question and competing offers.
- Neither measures how often AI mentions your brand. For that, see AI visibility trackers.
A simple routine
- Run Shopify's scanner on your home page and a key product page. Fix the setup gaps it lists.
- Run the AI Sales Assurance free check to see whether agents receive correct data across your products.
- Rerun Shopify's scanner after major changes (new theme, new market, new app touching product pages).
- Keep accuracy monitored with Essential or Pro, depending on how often your prices and stock change.

Is Shopify's Agentic Commerce Readiness scanner free?
Yes. It is free, needs no login, and works on any public storefront URL.

Reported checks include llms.txt, the UCP discovery endpoint, Product JSON-LD fields, policy pages, robots.txt, sitemaps and guest checkout, across 31 scored checks in five categories.
Does Shopify's scanner monitor my store continuously?
No. It scores the URL you submit when you run it. To catch price or stock drift between runs, you need a monitoring tool.
Should I use Shopify's scanner or AI Sales Assurance?
Both. Use Shopify's scanner for setup and robots.txt, and AI Sales Assurance to check and monitor that agent-facing prices, stock and schema match your live pages.
